Go The F To Sleep

This little book made quite a sensation when it was released in 2011. My husband and I got our copy (sent to us by an anonymous friend who must know us well) two years ago and I still take it down from the shelf and read it again periodically. It always gives me a little giggle.

In well written rhymes, Adam Mansbach perfectly captures the experience of trying to put to bed a child who just will not go, seemingly no matter what you try. It's something probably every parent can relate to. Just for fun, check out Playschool presenter Noni Hazelhurst reading the story .

The humour of the book aside, the illustrations are really beautiful. I love the way the child on each page is a distinct individual. The body language is realistic and the animals are beautifully drawn.

With its beautiful illustrations and simple humour Go the F*** to Sleep makes a great gift for a tired new parent, though you probably shouldn't actually read it to young children.
