Gingermelons Embroidered Animals Heirloom Dolls to Sew Embroider and Treasure

Gingermelons Embroidered Animals Heirloom Dolls to Sew Embroider and Treasure

Posted 2019-07-14 by Jennifer Muirheadfollow

This book is a guide for making beautiful soft animal dolls, like some of those that the author, Shelly Down, sells in her Etsy shop.

There are instructions on how to make a basic doll, then how to add different ears to turn them into a bear, cat, mouse, elephant, owl, or my personal favourite- a unicorn. Then comes the fun part- instructions on how to personalise each doll with embroidery and create clothes and even smaller toys for your toys.

There is a guide to the materials you need and basic stitches for embroidery, as well as patterns to copy and loads of full colour pictures.

This book is probably not ideal for an absolute beginner, but should be okay for someone with only a little experience with sewing. The author does assume you have a sewing machine and know how to use it, though in theory you could make the dolls and clothing using only hand sewing, it would just take longer. It's a great resource for making unique dolls to be treasured for years to come.

If you enjoy this book, Shelly has several other books on sewing, including Sew Your Own Dolls and My Felt Doll.
