Farscape Scorpius 1
Book cover, fair use.
Fifteen years after it was yanked from our screens with a cliffhanger ending (later resolved in the mini-series The Peacekeeper Wars
), the fantastic Aussie Sci Fi TV series Farscape
still has its fans.
In partnership with the Jim Henson Company, BOOM! studios produced three graphic novels and ongoing comic. Scorpius
is a collaboration between Farscape's
creator, Rockne O'Bannon and Star Trek
novelist David Alan Mack. a seven part spin-off mini-series. The story takes place at the same time as the main comic.
Scorpius is in exile, having crashed his ship on a deserted planet used by the Hynerians to dump waste. While he could escape if he wanted to, he bides his time, considering where to go when he finally makes his move.
without Crichton, Aeryn and the rest of the crew, which is takes a little getting used to, but it is well executed. The comic is narrated by Scorpius, so fans of the show will probably hear the narration in Wayne Pygram's creepy voice. He is, as always, a villain you can cheer for, clever enough to always keep you guessing. The art has an impressive amount of detail and nails the main character's freaky facial expressions.
#1 is a promising start to an interesting series. I'm not sure how someone who hasn't seen the show would feel about it, but there is plenty for fans to enjoy.
