Lives in a box with fifty brothers. Stamp on his head and you'll kill the others...
Rosheen Hayes is a firefighter, one of only two women on the local fire department. She's a talented investigator with a knack for figuring out how fires started. However, she also hides a dark secret; she's a pyromaniac. In issues one and two, Rosheen deals with her partner being shot and investigates a possible homicide. She also saves a homeless man from an explosion who turns out to be connected with her childhood in an orphanage. This brings back her memories of the mysterious Matchstick Man.
I picked this one up because of the sexy cover art and thought the premise sounded interesting. I love the mystery and I'll be curious to see whether the Matchstick Man is an actual person or some sort of supernatural force since it isn't clear so far.
Rosheen's an interesting character, with some odd quirks like leaving her front door unlocked because she is more afraid of being trapped inside during a fire than being burgled or attacked. I hope we see some more of her partner in future issues because the close friendship developed between the only two female fire fighters at their station has potential for some interesting character development.
Slash and Burn is an ongoing series, with the first trade paperback collection due out in June 2016. I'm looking forward to seeing the mystery start to unravel.
