If you’re looking for a travel guide to New York, then you’re likely to be hit with a huge selection of options. As one of the most popular and visited cities in the world, every travel guide company has at least one or two guides for New York City on their list, featuring its popular tourist attractions, eateries and accommodation venues.
While most broadly cover the city, there are a few guides that are more selective in the information that they provide, giving specialised information about certain aspects of the city. For fashion lovers, there are guides which provide the best shopping areas and cover the most exclusive addresses of each borough.
This is one such book.
Created by popular fashion illustrator Megan Hess,
New York: Through A Fashion Eye provides a beautifully designed collection of the best places to shop, eat, play and stay in what she claims is her favourite adopted city. Featuring her signature fashion illustrations, each page spread features a New York hotspot, accompanying coloured illustrations and the reason why this particular place is so important to visit from a fashionista’s view point.
While many of the sites have links to celebrities and the popular TV show
Sex And The City (for which Hess drew the original book cover illustrations), there is no doubt that this book is a lot more fashion detailed than others of a similar calibre. Having illustrated for fashion houses including Prada, Dior, Louis Vuitton, Tiffany & Co, Wedgwood and a host of other huge names, Hess has the background knowledge necessary to be a proper and informative guide on fashionable places to visit in New York. Her expertise is highlighted in her recounted experiences, well-researched information and gorgeous illustrations.
If you know a fashionista who has a yearning to visit New York City, or would simply like a different travel guide take on the city, then this is the perfect accompanying book. The illustrations are gorgeous, the edges of the pages are lined in bronze and the layout is clear. While there is more of an emphasis on things to see and do, and shops to visit, rather than dining and accommodation, this is one travel guide that is essential for those with a fashion eye.
