Four competitions for budding (and experienced) writers close on July 31, so don your creative green hat, put pen to paper – or fingers to keyboard – and submit your entries for the chance to win prizes and have your work published.
Toowoomba Writers Festival Inaugural Literary Prize
The Toowoomba Wordsmiths and Fellowship of Australian Writers are offering two $250 prizes, one for the winning short story and one for the winning poem. Winners will also be included in an anthology published by the Fellowship. Non-winning entries may also be chosen for publication. Entry costs $5.00 and closes on 31 July, 2014.
InkTears Flash Fiction Competition
Specifically for short writings, any theme is accepted for submissions of 500 words or less. The winner receives £250, runner up £50, and £25 to four Highly Commended entries. Stories are also published in the InkTears Readership along with the author’s biography. Entries close 31 July, 2014 and cost £3 for one submission, discounted for subsequent entries.
The Henry Handel Richardson Society 2014 Writing Competition
This competition is for any fiction, memoir or essay up to 5000 words. Prizes are $1500 for first place, $500 for second and $250 for third, plus book prizes for each. Entry is $10 and closes 31 July, 2014.
Mudgee Valley Writers 14th Biennial Competition
Entries for short stories (up to 2000 words) and poems (60 line maximum), including a novice section, are being accepted for this competition. Prizes range from $30 - $200, entry fees are $5 for a single entry and $12 for three.
