Miles Franklin, author of My Brilliant Career who requested in her will that the award be established.
The Miles Franklin Literary Award was set up to honour Australian writing of the highest quality. The 2014 winner was All the Birds Singing by Evie Wyld. Do you ever read the award winning books, and if so, have you enjoyed them?
I feel that I should have read more of them and some of my uni lecturers certainly encouraged us to, but I have only read a couple, with a few others languishing on my shelves unread. I did really enjoy The Well by Elizabeth Jolley and Jack Maggs by Peter Carey.
As a Brit, I haven't heard of this award before. Come to think of it, I can't recall reading any Australian fiction! Thank you for highlighting this, I shall go and see what I can find now :)
