Several at a time. I'm usually reading a couple of non fiction books a chapter at a time, which I might take quite a while over, as well as listening to a novel in audiobook format and maybe reading another novel in paper or ebook form. Heavier non fiction I need to concentrate on for a decent chunk of time so I only read it on the odd occasion when both my kids are out with their Dad or grandparents. Novels or lighter non fiction I can sometimes listen to with them home while I do housework.
It is very rare that I start more than one book at a given time. I start a book and can decide pretty quickly whether I will be able to finish it or not. I always have a backup book to read in my pile from the library loans.
I often have two or three going at once, my husband wonders how I remember whats going on with each, but I do! Like Jennifer they are different types though. Like at the moment I am reading a Harry Potter book, a self help book and a funny one.
Just the one for me :) Unless -HEAVEN FORBID - I misplace a book! Then I'll start another one until the first one shows up again. And then I'm conflicted about which one to read! Oh the perils of reading!
I technically only read one book at a time but my wife and I usually also have an audiobook that we will listen to together. If you consider audiobooks reading, then two at a time would be more accurate.
I read several books at the same time. Some are fiction, some non-fiction and I even listen to audiobooks. I enjoy variety and can easily jump from one book to the next depending on my attention span and level of interest in the subject matter.
If a book pulls me in, I will keep reading it until I have greedily sucked all I can from the pages and assimilated the content.
Normally, have 3-4 on the go at any one time!
It depends what 'mood' I'm in, so to speak, which book I'll read at any given time.
As they're usually Library books, have to return them by 'due date', so have to get brain into 'warp speed' reading sometimes! Lol!
Usually I have three books on the go. One that I really want to read, one that is recommended, one that is humorous. I find this stops me getting bored or annoyed with one because I can take a break and switch to another. And, no, I do not forget the plot or characters!
