Do you read biographies of bands before you see them live?

Question (197)      Music (7)      Biographies (3)      Entertainment (2)

During the last 6 months or so, many of the artists that I have enjoyed listening to throughout the years have announced Australian tours. This is great from an entertainment perspective (although not so much from a financial one), but it also makes me wonder just how much I know about all of these bands/ independent artists that I’m paying to see. While I love listening to their music, I sometimes wonder about their lives behind the scenes- particularly those who try to keep their lives private and out of the spotlight.

Do you like to read biographies of bands or artists before you see them live? Do you own books about particular people who you have seen or want to see in concert? Are they picture/ coffee table- type books or more biographical? Do you collect books of this musical genre?

I haven't really read many biographies of bands/artists that I've seen live. I did read a few about Queen and Freddie Mercury a few years ago though, after seeing the musical We Will Rock You. I also have a book about Dave Grohl on my shelf that I haven't gotten around to reading yet but will soon, hopefully. I've read one of Corey Taylor's books too- he's the lead singer from Slipknot and Stonesour- but that wasn't really a biography- it was more about his observations on life...
I've never done that, but it sounds like it might be a good way to get pumped up to see the band.
