At last I have read my first Stephen King novel, and to say it was amazing would be an absolute understatement.
From page one of this novel I was hooked. The detail King goes into and the images he is able to conjure up in your head is a skill that many authors nowadays seem to have a difficult time mustering up.
He has channelled a lot of different emotions in the book - love, fear, sadness, happiness, rejection, all through the character of Carrie. I could not help but feel sorry for the poor girl that is bullied and tormented her whole life and although I never condone the eye for an eye concept, it is difficult not to be on her side through all the terror that unfolds throughout the town. In saying this, it is not surprising that this book, published in 1974, has become one of the most banned books in schools across America and the world.
Carrie White, a shy girl brought up in a strongly religious, single parent household, brings terror on her town after years of torment by peers and also her mother. Using her telekinesis powers, she wreaks havoc on the small town, leaving a trail of destruction.
No more than 200 pages, this is a great weekend read, and is sure to delight. Although this is only my first Stephen King story to read, I can guarantee it will not be my last.
