'The Reader's Digest Omnibus', printed 1959.
Got copy of that for Xmas. Loved it. Re-read the stories' multiple times.
Then it was given to my nieces' & nephews' like ALL my childhood things were, including my beautiful Ashby bicycle. Everything was ripped, scribbled on, smashed, as they couldn't care less, & their mother wasn't as fastidious about things as I was. Too busy with four kids under six years.
Anyway, a few years' ago, got 'nostalgic' for it, & advertised in local paper. A pensioner lady responded. Her copy was in immaculate condition, so I bought it. We sat & had a 'cuppa', & talked for hours!
She was a lovely person, & lonely, like a lot of persons' these days, as family move away.
Two people brought together by one book!
Can't get much better than that!
